well,it’s my first blog and guess what it concerns,,,,tech..
the mozilla labs have let out a new feature which they say is going to be an important part of firefox 3.1..
now i am an avid firefox user and any changes are really anticipated by me,however this one ,though, really new is already becoming a hotball of controversies(sort of)…..
first the product—–GEODE…
what this product basically does is that it can tell you your position if you are using a wi-fi network, fairly accurately(actually a deviation of 10-20 metres)…
as such, the uses of this product are infinite…
for one-a demo called foodfinder is where you can see geode in action…..
the basic idea is that if you happen to walk into a new city, you are feeling hungry and you really don’t have an idea where you will find a decent restaurant,so what you do is that instead of asking someone in the hotel(which by the way is of average standards since it does not have a restaurant) or your tour guide or local business partner, you open your laptop, access net and use this foodfinder to know where to get some decent food….
it looks promising, but my real worry is that third party companies will have an easy access to all your details including {now} your position(place/location/city/state)…
however it’s still in development mode and i think it would be fair enough to wait by early 2009(when firefox 3.1 is released) to actually give a final verdict on the product..
till then..
it’s a busy season for the already busy internet privacy firms….
